{"id":9527,"date":"2020-12-14T09:02:48","date_gmt":"2020-12-14T14:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teamneo.org\/?p=9527"},"modified":"2023-04-26T14:22:56","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T14:22:56","slug":"in-demand-occupations-remain-critical-during-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/northeastohioregion.com\/news\/in-demand-occupations-remain-critical-during-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"In-Demand Occupations Remain Critical During Pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workforce Connect Healthcare Sector Partnership and Team NEO collaborate on occupation opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/northeastohioregion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/team-neo-qer-2020-q4-cover.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9529\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri-c.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C\u00ae)<\/a>, leader of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wf-connect.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Workforce Connect Healthcare Sector Partnership (WCHSP)<\/a>, and Team NEO have released Team NEO\u2019s December 2020 Quarterly Economic Review, about the state of job postings during the pandemic, with a focus on health care needs and opportunities in Northeast Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-horizontal is-content-justification-right is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-30af2ff6 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/northeastohioregion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/team-neo-qer-2020-q4-occupations-covid.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download REport<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Team NEO\u2019s data for occupations during the eight-month timeframe of March 1 through October 31, 2020, reveal the following insights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Job postings did not decline significantly compared with the same time period in 2019, but the overall employment landscape shifted. While opportunities in in-demand occupations \u2014 health care, information technology and some manufacturing segments \u2014 held steady, other sectors declined as a result of new consumer behavior patterns during the pandemic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nearly 311,000 job openings were posted, with health care and social assistance positions topping the chart (60,500 openings); registered nursing positions accounted for 11,366 of these job opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shifting consumer behaviors influenced growth in sectors such as trucking and negative impacts to sectors such as leisure and hospitality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There were more than 16,500 postings on the health care front, while online giant Amazon and online auto retailer Carvana added job postings to keep up with at-home purchasing trends. Similarly, as people stepped up their cooking at home, Giant Eagle supermarkets posted more than 3,000 job openings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communication skills topped the list of the most requested core skills among employer posting job openings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roughly 80 percent of the open positions did not specify requiring a postsecondary degree, offering opportunity for entry-level candidates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teamneo.org\/?team=bill-koehler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Team NEO CEO Bill Koehler<\/a> said, \u201cNortheast Ohio is moving forward despite the challenges of COVID. Many opportunities for health careers fall outside of traditional doctor and nurse roles, including positions that do not require a college degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tri-C is joined in the partnership by the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cleveland Clinic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhhospitals.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University Hospitals<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metrohealth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The MetroHealth System<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stvincentcharity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">St. Vincent Charity Medical Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swgeneral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Southwest General Medical Center<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.va.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System<\/a>, as well as other organizations and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Workforce Connect Healthcare Sector Partnership represents a paradigm shift from competition to collaboration in health care,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri-c.edu\/news-and-events\/news\/tri-c-names-executive-director-to-guide-workforce-connect-healthcare-sector-partnership.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tri-C\u2019s Sue Krejci<\/a>, Executive Director of the Workforce Connect Healthcare Sector Partnership. \u201cIt serves as a platform for employers to discuss common hiring challenges and address the needs identified so clearly in the Quarterly Economic Review report.
